Bonding systems are materials used in dentistry to bond dental fillings to tooth tissues. They can be light-cured, self-etching, or contain bonding agents to increase adhesion.
Light-cured bonding systems consist of a resin and a light activator, which when combined and exposed to UV or near-infrared light, cure and provide a strong bond between the filling and the tooth.
Self-etching bonding systems contain an acid and resin that chemically bond to the tooth tissue. The acid etches the enamel and dentin, creating micro-irregularities that the resin can penetrate and bond to.
Bonding agents are additives to bonding systems that enhance their properties. They may contain silica, aluminum fluoride, or other ingredients that increase adhesion to the tooth and filling.
All of these materials are important for a durable and effective tooth filling that prevents further erosion and decay.
