Prosthetic impression compounds are materials used in dentistry to make accurate impressions of a patient's teeth. They are essential when designing dentures, crowns, bridges and tooth overlays. Prosthetic impression masses consist of elastomers that, when brought into contact with the patient's teeth, maintain their exact shape and enable precise impressions to be obtained. Thanks to them, the prosthetist can make tooth models on which further work on the design and production of prosthetic elements is based. Prosthetic impression compounds come in various types, including pastes, gels, or elastic tapes, and their selection depends on the individual needs of the patient and the type of dental procedure performed.
What are prosthetic impression compounds used for?
Compression masses are used in dentistry to produce dentures, orthodontic appliances and rails. A dental assistant or dentist uses an impression to create a spatial negative of the condition of the mouth and teeth. The impression is then cast in a dental laboratory and a plaster model is made. Depending on your needs and preferences, impression masses of different consistency, setting time and composition are available, for example alginate, silicone or elastomeric masses.
