Prosthetic waxes are materials used in dental prosthetics to model components of prostheses such as crowns, bridges, or dental prostheses. These waxes are usually paraffin waxes, containing additives such as rubber or synthetic resins, which gives them plastic properties that allow for easy modeling.
Prosthetic waxes are divided into two basic types: soft and hard waxes. Soft waxes are characterized by a low melting point and are used to model details and delicate elements, such as the edges of dentures, grooves, as well as to make preliminary models. Soft waxes are also commonly used to make waxy pre-prosthetic impressions.
Hard waxes have a much higher melting point and are used to create more complex shapes, such as crowns, bridges and dentures. Hard waxes enable modeling of precise details and are more resistant to mechanical damage.
In addition to the division into soft and hard, prosthetic waxes can also be divided according to their physical properties, such as plasticity, hardness or adhesion. Prosthetic waxes are an important element in the prosthetic process because they allow the modeling of prosthetic elements in a precise manner and tailored to the individual needs of the patient.
