Dental filling materials, dental composites, light-curing composites, chemically curing composites, temporary tooth fillings.

The most commonly used tooth filling materials include.

  • Dental composites - these are materials consisting of ceramic or glass resins and fillers. They make it possible to obtain the natural appearance of the tooth, are durable and resistant to mechanical damage.

  • Amalgams - is an alloy of metals, mainly mercury, silver, copper and tin, which have been used for over 150 years. Amalgams are durable and resistant to mechanical damage, but are not aesthetic and can be harmful to health because they release mercury.

  • Ionomer glass - is a material composed of glass powder and polyalkoxylate acid. Ionic glass is used for cavities in primary teeth because it is easier to apply than composites, but is not as durable.

  • Ceramics - this is a material used to rebuild cavities in the front teeth, because it gives a very natural aesthetic effect.

Choosing the right tooth filling material depends on many factors, such as the location of the cavity, its size and depth, as well as the preferences of the patient and the dentist.

What materials are tooth fillings made of?

In the past, due to the lack of other materials, only amalgam fillings were assumed. Thanks to increasingly innovative solutions, it is now possible to create aesthetic and durable dental fillings made of various materials, for example composites, plastics or ceramics. Depending on clinical needs and cases, the dentist currently has a wide range of filling materials. The advantage of modern filling materials is high biocompatibility and no negative interactions with the patient's body, as well as a wide range of shades to choose from, which makes a correctly made filling very difficult to distinguish from natural dentin.

How to choose the right filling material?

Depending on the class of the defect, we can select the appropriate filling material (producers provide such information), as well as depending on whether it is dedicated to front teeth, side teeth or tooth necks.
