Impregnated and non-impregnated dental retraction threads are a basic element of the equipment of every dental office. These are small, flexible threads that are used to dehydrate the treatment area and pull the gums away for better access to the teeth.
Impregnated retraction threads have special impregnations that allow for better dehydration of the treatment area and control of bleeding from the gums. Non-impregnated threads do not have such an impregnation, but are suitable for simple treatments where there is no need to excessively dehydrate the treatment field.
Retraction threads can be made of various materials, such as nylon, silk or wool. They can have different colors and thicknesses, which allows them to be selected depending on the needs of a given treatment.
Their use is very important during prosthetic procedures, such as supplementing crowns, bridges or dentures. Thanks to retraction threads, the dentist can accurately assess the condition and position of the teeth, which translates into better quality of the procedure performed.
